The chairman of HKTV, Ricky Wong Wai Kay, said the statement released today is incredible as the legislative council members are incapable to judge the existing situation of the free television market.

Government has released a statement today to further explain the decision on the free television licenses. In the statement, it continues to emphasize that the legislative council is gradually expanding the free television market based on marketing policy, law, consultant’s report and others factors.

The statement said it is difficult to predict the development of free television market, so members used a cautious attitude on the TV licensing decision.

Wong said there are less than 5 legislative council members, who have experienced in television industry, and exports have said the industry is very “dynamic”, so how can the members have the ability to write a trustworthy statement.

Wong said for example, in the statement, it said some members thought that the time for audience to watch television is limited and the ratings can’t grow endlessly, but they don’t have the authority to convince the reader.

After the rejection of free TV licensing, Wong said HKTV is still working on the post-production stage of some programmes.

He said he still has planning to fight for the TV license, but if the existing situation doesn’t have any progress in 3 to 6 weeks, he would stop to run HKTV.

Wong said he doesn’t have any intension to buy ATV as “I like buying new house, but not the old ones.”

He said the Chief-Executive CY Leung was the decision maker of the free TV licenses rather than the central government as many people have told him that China hasn’t talked about anything towards the Hong Kong free TV licenses.
