Mr. Law Yuk Kai, The Director of Human Rights Monitor, attends a general assembly of Shue Yan College, sharing his experience and explains the issues on “Human Rights Protection Mechanism in Hong Kong”, for the students of journalism and communication. He reminds journalism students “You must know something of everything”.
At the first beginning, He said he has ever been a journalism student before, but someone told him “journalism student must know something of everything”. Because of this, He gives up to study journalism. He states his story because he wants to remind journalism students, being a journalism student, “You must know something of everything”.
He then mentions he has done many on educating the students about human rights, for example, he has decided and arranged a list of 10 videos for introduces the issue of human rights; they will broadcast on T.V in the foreseeable future.
At last, Law do not agreed the issue of organizing press privacy council for protecting human rights, so that to enforce the media not to infringe human rights and privacy. “We should give more space for media, as I believe media should have ethic to take the balance between privacy and the rights of public to know the facts.” He said. He added, if the press privacy is really set up, it is difficult to ensure the efficiency, and even will limit the space of media to tell the truth.
