"Tik Tok" is not only a business, but also promote communication between people, said an Experienced Director

Tik Tok provides a variety of videos and musicals, which can become a new communication platform for different users, said an experienced director.

"Tik Tok gradually entered the Hong Kong market, and a total of 1.181 million users downloaded it last year, which far more than social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat," said Patton Chen, the planning director of ByteDance Ltd and Tik Tok (South China).

Chen is the planning director of Tik Tok. Tik Tok is an application for creating and sharing a three to fifteen seconds of music videos. In 2018, Tik Tok has been downloaded for over 45.8 million times, it exceeded the download rates of Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

Actually, public in Hong Kong always think that the major users of Tik Tok are primary and secondary school students, however Chen said it is not the truth.

"In fact, users aged 25 or over were higher than those aged 16 to 24 by nearly 30%. So it can be seen that Tik Tok is not limited to the playthings of teenagers, but also the choice of adult entertainment," said Chen.

TikTok could help more people know how to make the videos because it was easy to use and the quality of TikTok could be as good as the professional video, said by Chen.

In response to the International Museum Day and Chinese Cultural Heritage Day, seven China museums launched a “Museum in Tik Tok” video contest, aiming to make Chinese traditional cultures more accessible to the younger generation.

Chen said the competition has successfully attracted lots of teenagers or young adults to travel around the China museums and learn the histories behind cultural relics and monuments.

"Not just China users, Tik Tok also attracted some foreign users, like the second large users was with nearly 300 million users in India, and the third large market was America," said Chen.

Actually, adding lots of Chinese traditional elements into Tik Tok videos can change the foreigner’s common perception of China. In the long run, it can build up a better image of China and attract more travellers, said Chen.

Some people thinks that the approval system of Tik Tok is loose, which makes it easy for young people to get in short-sighted videos and poison their values. However, Chen said that the original meaning of short video is to record good moments of life. Therefore if the content is contain bad information, it will be removed.

"In fact, Tik Tok had strict checking systems to ensure all videos do not contain inappropriate contents. The first layer is the mechanical automatic audit, followed by the manual spot check and audit, and finally is the user's report.," said Chen.

Chen also added that if a video in Tik Tok was reported by many people, the issuer's account will be blocked, so it can reduce the chance for getting bad content.
