“Hong Kong films will never die!” said Jing Wong

“Hong Kong films will never die! It is only deviating from its original path, and however, it cannot be converted to the previous like,” said Jing Wong, Hong Kong Famous Director in Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.

Speaking on the issue of the film industry, Wong said that people should not stress on whether the film is made in Hong Kong or China, or basically a co-production film.

Wong said that “in fact, they are all using the same medium of Chinese; that is to say, they are all under the same big umbrella, and Hong Kong film is just one of the items under this category”.

“There are 1.3 billion people in China which is formed by various classes. People should stand back and look at the whole picture, so as to judge broadly, fairly and reasonably,” Wong explained.

He foresaw that there would be a film crisis in China in 2030. He also said that film is an entertainment for the mass, and it is a “mass communication killer” meanwhile.

He explained that when the society largely consists of middle class, the film industry would be severely weakened as they no longer enjoy the entertainment for the mass but to seek the niche.

Unlike the film industry in the U.S., it has invested a lot of money to boost the industry.
