Allen On: Lantau said should be positioned as a four-star district

Allen Ha Wing On, the chairman of Lantau Development Alliance, said Lantau Island should be positioned as a three- or four-star district to attract more tourists to Lantau Island.

Ha said Hong Kong is almost overloaded with flocking tourists. Hong Kong should grab the chance of the completion Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to develop northern part of Lantau Isalnd, including Tung Chung, where already had commercial land stood by for development; otherwise it would be too late for Hong Kong economy. He added that lack of shopping malls and hotels have obstructed the development of Lantau Island as there are not sufficient infrastructures to attract tourists to stay for longer time. He said, there are theme park and exhibition hall on Lanatu Island which could attract many tourists, if more shopping malls and hotels are built, economic revenue generated could benefit Tung Chung residents a lot.

Ha said, Lantau Island and Tung Chung should be positioned as a three-or-four-star district to distribute the tourists of Central and Tsim Sha Tsui and target on middle-consumption-level tourists. He is confident that the development of Lantau Isalnd could avoid repeating the mistake of Sheung Shui, where had been seriously affected by mainland tourists who come to buy milk powder.
