Bernard Chan, the Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development, said that he had no interest in being a Chief Executive in Hong Kong and described it as a 'dead-end' job on Tuesday.

As belongs to one of the Executive Council Members, Chan was being asked whether he would join the Chief Executive election in 2017. 'There isn’t any motivation for me to take this exhausting but unrewarding role.' He answered firmly and he added that he prefer helping the government as a ‘part-time worker’ just like what he is doing now.

Since the three landfills in Hong Kong would be filled up within the next 8 years, the waste disposal problem is serious which need prompt reaction. Chan pointed out that people always throw away rubbish without separating those are recyclable because there is no motivation for them to do so. Yet, the planning of household waste disposal charging scheme is believed to change this atmosphere. “In the future, people have to pay for throwing every bag of waste. I believe this could help to build up the practice of source separation of domestic waste,” said Chan during his speech at Shue Yan University.

The consultation period of the household waste disposal charging scheme will end this week
