Wen Wei Po nowadays is heavily inclined to the central government, however, it also had voiced out for democracy in the early years. This afternoon, Chau Yick, former Executive Vice President of Wen Wei Po, attended the seminar held by Shue Yan University and said he is very disappointed to Wen Wei Po, because Wen Wei Po is already lost and “mainland based”. (Too inclined to mainland China)

"Uncle" took over the Wen Wei Po

Chau Yick pointed out that Wen Wei Po is highly important before, because it is a very useful channel to let all circles to understand Chinese Communist Party. However, after the crackdown of June Fourth Incident in 1989, Wen Wei Po has completely changed the management approach, the whole editorial team had been took over by mainland China, and also had a period of time that is completely self-contained. He believes that Wen Wei Po has been completely “mainland based” and lost. He said “ it has been took over by a group of “uncle” ( derogatory of Left Wing people from China ), all the editors speak Mandarin, I did not read Wen Wei Po for over ten years, not to mention you ( students) are disappointed by Wen Wei Po, I am also very disappointed.

It is a good idea to fold up Left Wing Newspapers

Chau believe that the Left Wing Newspapers do not have much influencing power nowadays, because there are only are small portion of people still reading it. He thinks there are on existence value on the Left Wing Newspapers anymore and it is a good idea to fold up them. The Chinese Communist Party afraid their points will not be conveyed if these newspapers are being folded up, however, Chau thinks it don’t understand that the circumstances has changed, newspapers is already a dying channel.
