A developer of digital radio said that he was confident about the outlook of digital radio and believed that digital radio could surive in Hong Kong.


Albert Cheng, the founder of Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited (DBC), said that there was room for improvement of the developing digital radio. He said digital radio should further develop visual transmittion, including video and image, but not only focus on the quality of sound.


Cheng founded a new online digital radio, D100, after leaving DBC. He said that most of the digital radio channels nowadays, only pay attention on sound quality but ignore the significance of visual effect. Therefore, D100 would futher develop visual broadcast.


D100 also developed a new method of radio broadcast, “Audience could call our number for listening to D100 programmes by phone,” The new technology was user-friendly and specially designed for elders.


Cheng said that he would develop oversea market and take advantage of Internet, “Wide distribution is the most important to the development of mass media, not only radio.”


“There were over 20,000 audience listening to our programmes at the peak,” said Cheng who was confident to the outlook of digital radio and D100.
