China VS Vatican

Reporter:--095124 楊秀文 YEUNG, SAU MAN 2011年12月20日 (二) 20:53 (UTC)

Zen Ze-Kiunm was promoted to cardinal five years ago and since then, he was even more aggressive on commenting government’s policy.

“There are struggles between Hong Kong government and Catholic when I was making some decision,” Zen said.

In those struggles, Zen always got help from Vatican.

“In some regions, the local government banned the connection between the Catholic bishop and Vatican. Those governments were trying to change the bishops’ mind and making them to pledge loyalty to the local governments. Gladly, it does not happen in Hong Kong,” he said.

Zen named this type of working format “the Vietnam format”. The obedience of Catholic bishops to the local governments is discouraged. The Catholic churches in Hong Kong are running with this format. But many bishops in China are forced by the local governments to obey Chinese government.

“Chinese Catholic bishops are forced to against Vatican. The local governments are trying to ruin the relationship between China and Vatican. Fortunately, some bishops have stood up and fought back,” he added.

He gave an example of the bishop in Xian. When the Xian government ordered the bishop to participate in an event which supports China, the bishop did not show up. After that, he was threatened by the government.

“Sometime the Catholic cannot be too compromise with the government, no matter what result the bishops will get,” He continued. “He maybe lost his freedom, but he earned much respect from the followers.” (((good job here...nice angle and great content...presentation is solid as well...8/10)))
