Chow Yung: never achieve democracy through violence

Reporter: Simon Hung Tuesday, 24 Sept, 2013

The chairman of Robert Chow and Friends Limited said he supported democracy in Hong Kong, but without violence because he feared that social unrest would paralyze the city.

Chow Yung, a promoter of the ‘silent majority for HK’, which is a peace movement, to keep the peace situation of HK, and ensure HK enter the democracy without unrest. Chow mentioned most countries enter democracy lead by the violence and it exchanged with blood, such as Singapore, Malaysia and India.

“If there are social unrest, Hong Kong will be paralyzed” Chow said. “There will not be enough police to keep the public security and it may cause transportation paralyzed.”

Chow thought that not to start from violence to achieve the goal of democracy like India and Africa is an opportunity for HK citizens. He also thought that changing the system needs to paid for great cost, HK citizens need to compromise. Since democracy process is moving forward in HK, if the china government rejected the democracy, ‘occupy central’ is the last method to deal with.

Chow mentioned that most HK citizens were recognized as political apathetic at past, but it is different now since some people are active in political movement. Chow didn’t oppose civil disobedience, he thought that it is related to citizens, society as well as the police and it is just a kind of nomination.
