With the advancement of technology in Hong Kong in these decades, the use of Video Home System(VHS) has been declined. Using websites as medium to watch films and videos are more convenient than VHS, however, this also raises the problem of piracy. Netizens are used to download films from the website without paying a penny, which hinders the development of film industry. Li Kuo Hsing, the chairman of Mei Ah Entertainment Group Ltd. said on the general assembly held by HKSYU today that with the use of cloud services, the problem of piracy may be solved.

He explained that film publishers provide their products to customers through using the cloud services. The procedure of the whole system would be customers register on their website and download the films that they are interested in. Different from the phenomenon now in Hong Kong, the download of films from those websites are legally. He said that this can helped to tackle the present situation that people usually downloaded films for free from websites, which provide all sorts of pirate films.

He said that with the use of cloud service, customers are able to have a new habit on watching films. He said that this technology is able to break the time and geographical obstacles. He explained that the traditional VHS, VCDs and DVDs required customers to sit at home and watch the films. For families, they even have to wait for all family members to watch the film at the same time. However, with the rapid development of smart phones and tablets, people are able to watch films on their own devices. People can watch them anytime at any places without restrictions. He said that cloud service can surely provide a more convenient way for people to enjoy the films that they are interested in.

Li said, cloud service may be able to save the film industry by tackling the problem of piracy. He said that with the boom of using internet, the film industry had been facing a huge challenge. He said that before the frequent use of internet, Hong Kong can produce around three to four hundred films in a year. However, with the impact brought by internet, their company can only produce about 120 films in one year. He said that this is partially caused by the problem of piracy.

He said that it is hard to tackle the problem of piracy that it still exists no matter how hard they tried to solve the problem. He said that these torts no matter affect film producing companies, it also brings a great effect to the producers such as directors. He said producers had devoted a lot into producing a film. However, if their films are being pirated, their motivations in film production will be reduced. He said that all these producers’ efforts deserve returns; therefore the problem of piracy should be solved and hopefully can be solved by cloud services.
