Advertisement on Internet is common in the present day society. However, people are usually get bored or feel annoyed by the repetition of advertisements shown on the Internet during browsing the net. To deal with this problem of making suitable advertisements to potential customers, Samuel Lam, the vice president of AAStocks.com introduced a new way of online advertisements.


He visited Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday and introduced different way of online advertising. Lam said, “netizens” are annoyed by the advertisements shown on social networks or search engines. To solve the problem, advertising agencies will record the cookies of the internet users for about three months in order to analyze their behaviors.


He explained, agencies will collect the cookies of the netizens after they have entered their websites. Information is analyzed and sort out websites that they frequently used. When they are browsing websites, only advertisements that they might interested in will pop up on the page. He said this kind of advertisement is full of characteristics, ensuring that netizens will not be flooded by advertisements that they are not interested in. He said this can increase the effectiveness of advertisements.


He used AAStock.com as an example, stated that after netizens have entered their websites, their cookies will be recorded by the system. According to the information collected by the system, their website will show suitable advertisements to them, which is called behavior targeting.


However, he said, some people will concern that collecting their cookies will lead to the reveal of their privacy. He explained that cookies only act as a counter, counting people’s behavior of browsing websites. What an advertising agency received is only the record of entering which websites, but not the private information of netizens.


He explained that cookies doesn’t represents the name and identity of the netizen, therefore it doesn’t related to the reveal of privacy. He used other mass advertising agencies as example, stating that google and yahoo are using the same way of behavior targeting as well.


For those who concerned and feared that their cookies are being tracked, he advised them to delete their cookies every day so that advertising agencies are not able to collect the information from them. However, he said, if every netizens use the same way to avoid agencies collecting their cookies, all advertising agencies will be closed down.
