Loh Chan, the chief executive of Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited (DBC), emphasized that 'content is king' during a seminar held in Shue Yan University this afternoon.

New digital broadcasting stations are under a competitive atmosphere in which they are facing big challenges to stand out from the existing traditional broadcasting stations. However, Loh found that the qualities of the programs are the most important factor to attract audience and sustain a balance between the income and the expenditure.

“Content is king,” Loh said. “And we are trying our best to run the 7 channels of DBC. I hope we could adapt to the mode of running the channels within 2 years and attract as many audiences as we can.” Loh also claimed that DBC has a clear direction to run the news channel, with fairness as a basis.

The working styles in different media organizations are similar, said Loh. “I was always discussing what news stories to include in different working places. Different media only means different format to spread out information to the public.” said Loh. He figured out the phenomenon of the existence of different portable devices leading to a more convenient and common way for public to attain information. He guessed it is already a trend in the coming years. “In two years, no more radio licenses will be needed because broadcasting stations will be all run online,” Loh joked.
