SEP 17- After settling the distribution of equity, Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC)’s seven channels started broadcasting yesterday in order to fulfill the licensing conditions. Loh Chan, the Chief Executive Officer of DBC, said the corporation is going to produce diverse programs.

Loh Chan attended the general assembly at Shue Yan University this afternoon. He said running a digital radio is all about “choices and diversity”. With the resources and technology today, Loh said digital radio should be able to produce a wide range of programs.

Loh pointed that DBC values the diversity of its programs, thus there are channels specialize on leisure and minority parties, like Channel 3 and 4 are broadcasting classical and pop music 24 hours a day, and Channel 5’s programs are targeting minorities in Hong Kong. While Channel 1 and 2’s contents tend to be more general and are targeting the mass, he added.

According to Loh, there are over 200,000 digital radios circulating in the society now. He admitted digital radio still needs more promotion because of its special requirement on devices.

“Starting from mid-September till the end of this year, DBC is going to install digital radio for free on 20,000 taxis and minibuses, at the cost of one thousand dollars per device,” said Loh.

He said taxi drivers welcomed the campaign because the digital radio installed will not excluded the analogue AM/FM radio. He added the campaign overall costs about 20 million dollars, and expected it can reach one million potential audiences.
