With the rapid development of portable devices and Internet coverage, Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited (DBC) Chief Executive Loh Chan shared some tactics on how the DBC is going to keep its competitiveness in the future.

Statistics collected by a US research team show that people are more likely to receive new information via online platforms and that the use of traditional media like TV and newspaper is declining.

To increase the coverage of the use of digital radio, Loh said that both FM and AM channels are available on the latest digital radio in order to promote it to taxi drivers, the major audience. He further explained that taxi drivers have rejected installing the free digital radio and replacing the traditional one because they are used to the channels they listen to and refuse to switch to new channels.

Apart from the taxi drivers, DBC also targeted at the elderly. When asked if the elderly can afford the cost of a digital radio, which costs around HKD$1000, Loh claimed that DBC is now approaching different elderly caring organizations to seek cooperation. One measure is that the organizations will subsidize part of the cost and the DBC will be responsible for the remaining.

Loh added that their ultimate goal is to develop more channels whereas it is the most direct and efficient way to enlarge their audience coverage. Yet he also emphasized that, "content is king" therefore the DBC will start considering adding new channels once the existing 7 channels run successfully.
