The big data development in Hong Kong was slow. Four Big Data experts said there were three reasons why Hong Kong was lagging behind China in big data usage.

James Leung, Morris Ho, Sammy Tsui, co-founder and chief data officer of WeeAre Holdings Limited, and Willde Ng, Director of Another Factory Ltd, attended the general assembly of Shue Yan University. Tsui said the big data was not commonly used in Hong Kong, as the market scale was small and had limited space for big data development.

Lack of experts led to the slow development of big data. "It required tons of scientists who are expertise in this scope," Ho said. He continued that there was shortage in courses to train people who was interested in big data, while government and universities did not put capital and resources on this industry.

“Hong Kong people is not deficient but not willing to do. The society lacks of people like us who are minded to take the first step.” said Leung.
