“Twenty Two” is a documentary about China’s last surviving “comfort women” that is heartbreaking, humanistic and totally devoid of simplistic jingoism, released in Chinese cinema in 2017.

“Twenty Two” is directed by a mainland director Guo Ke, it accumulated more than 160 million (RMB) at the box office. “They (comfort women) made me find the meaning of being a director,” said Guo.

In some people’s view, they said the documentary hurts the “comfort women” again. “Ethics are what I always concerned,” said Law Tsin-wong, a documentary filmmaker. Law was graduated from The Hong Kong Shue Yan University, she has studied Journalism and Mass Communication in her bachelor degree. Law has further studied Philosophy and Arts in The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Law pointed out that it is the journalist's responsibilities to let the audience reflect on social issues, also they should be measuring the impact of the visual. "The purpose of the documentary is to tell the story of the respondent rather than inciting the mood of the audience.

Law once worked as a reporter, copywriter, editor and director, she has extensive television production experience and now working on documentaries and movies. The "Light Up(HKAFF 2017)", which is being released currently, is the first documentary directed by Law.

In Hong Kong, the documentaries are dominated by RTHK. Some people said the novices have no way to access any audience or platform. Law described herself was also a novice.

“It was my first time!” said Law. She thinks the topic is the most important thing in the documentary, someone will notice that as long as you are special enough.

The cognition of most people is confined in the documentary on TV, even RTHK was subject to their favourite topics. However, the topics do not end with news-oriented documentary only, there are many types.

In cinema, there are some other kinds of the documentary. Law pointed out that if a documentary wants more popular, it can go through other countries' film festivals then return to Hong Kong, which will make people feel more surprised.
