Ex-RTHK staff refuses to comment Roy Tang

By Kelvin Choi, 9-4-2013

Chan Jane, Channel Director and News Director of One-TV, refuses to make a comment on the incumbent director of her ex-employer, despite showing gratitude to the company.

Roy Tang Yun-kwong, director of RTHK, had been criticized of an over alleged political censorship after he took office, and is well known as the “Assistant Officer Director” of the RTHK, where the staff warmly welcomed him on the day of his inauguration with a black carpet.

Chan said that she does not want to make any comment on her ex-employer, but to admit that the 14-year work in RTHK has been a cradle to her and shaped what she is today, and she still believe that it has the best integrity media in Hong Kong.

Other than showing her thankfulness to the company, she also praised the media environment in Hong Kong, and described it as “heaven”, where “people can stand firm to his philosophy of doing news”.

However, she also agreed that sometimes the media workers have to succumb to the reality that the pay is not fair enough in Hong Kong. “What I meant ‘heaven’ is at a ‘spiritual level’,” said Chan, “and what makes you stay in the industry is your passion to your work.”

Nevertheless, as an Asia-pacific based media, she aims to go into the PRC market, and she expresses her goodwill to the mainland.

“We will not do anything to challenge the regime of China,” said Chan, “yet we will try to be faithful to the truth and stay objective when we are to report Chinese news.”
