Filtering restaurants reviews can maintain its quality, says Ray Chung

Reported by Alvin Wu

OpenRice.com, a successful website of food reviews established for about 15 years, has become popular with ability to expand its business. Ray Chung, founder of the company, may reveal its key to success as their filtering of various restaurants’ reviews to maintain the quality. “I don’t care whether their (readers) review is positive or negative,” Ray Chung said in Shue Yan University, “we just want to know if it is fraud or not.” Maintaining quality of reviews, Chung suggested they filter out fraud reviews by not only computers, but also editors. This measure, in Chung’s point of view, can reduce the chance when readers are tricked by some dishonest restaurants. “We refuse to let restaurants’ owners to response in our website,” Chung added, “this may avoid battle of words.” Chung mentioned there were restaurants’ owners writing feedback to negative reviews, but he then chose to let owners write feedback through e-mail instead of writing on the website in order to avoid battle of words.
