Have you ever count how long you will spend to determine the videos interesting or not? A planning director of Tik Tok says, the messages must be brought out in ten seconds.

The length of Tik Tok videos tended to be shorter, as over 32 per cent mainlanders would like to receive messages and learnt new knowledge in a short period of time, so they liked to watch short videos. Patton Chen Lin-tong, the Tik Tok planning director said, many audiences only spent five to eight seconds to determine the videos attractive or not, in order to follow the recently trend, the messages of the videos must be presented in the first ten seconds. Also, the videos must be brief and attractive.

To attract the users of Tik Tok, the videos for every user were difference, as the artificial intelligence (AI) would follow each audience’s preferences to recommend different videos. Except the type of videos, Tik Tok also create videos in the portrait mode, as more than 90 per cent of users use their smartphone in portrait mode instead of landscape mode.


“Museum in Tik Tok”

In order to lead Chinese traditional cultures to the younger generation, there were seven China museums launched a “Museum in Tik Tok” to response to the International Museum Day and Chinese Cultural Heritage Day. Chen said this video contest was very successful to lead Chinese traditional cultures to teens and young adults and attracted them to these museums and learn the histories about cultural in China. “Tik Tok would like to add more Chinese traditional elements to change the foreigners’ original perception”, he added, it was a nice chance to enhance the image of China and attracted more travelers to China. Chen said, Tik Tok can help to spread Chinese culture and increase the interaction between singers and their fans though this contest, Chen said.

Chen is the planning director of Tik Tok. Tik Tok is a popular app for the young generation that the users can create and share a three to fifteen seconds videos. In 2018, Tik Tok has been downloaded for over 45.8 million times, which exceeded the download rates of Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
