Chairman of Lantau Development Alliance said that they wanted to develop a mid-level position for Lantau and Tung Chung which could create job opportunities and solve the problem of poverty.

Don’t want to be five-star again

“We want to develop a Tour, Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tung Chung, but we don’t want to put it as a five-star position”, said Allen Ha. As Hong Kong had a lot of places were five-star so that the price of those places was very expensive. Ha said that they want Lantau and Tung Chung stayed at a mid-level position so that could attract more tourists.

To reverse the bad situation

Ha said that Poverty and employment mismatch are the main problems on Lantau Island and Tung Chung. The development of Lantau Island could reverse this situation. The development could give citizens more opportunities for getting a job, which could solve the problem of employment mismatch. “We will focus on the teenagers’ employment problem more as they are the future of the city”, said Ha.

The self-image of teenagers is low

Ha said that the group of teenagers who lived Lantau and Tung Chung were strange. “They are not willing to attend the interview. Some of them may need some Non-Governmental organizations to approval them actively,” said Ha. A lot of teenagers were late for the interview. Ha believed that the development could give them the chances to increase self-enhancement and self-image.
