The Community Chest of Hong Kong is a non-profit company. It provides services for the people who cannot get help from the government. At the same time, it gives funding to companies which provide similar services. Community Relations of the Chest Louie H S Tong said “actually we have inter-competitions with our funding receivers.”

There are many charities in Hong Kong. They raise funding every year in different format such as TV charity shows and marathons. There are fundings between these charities too. “We are competing with each other. However we do not compete in areas that receive funds from the competitors,” she said.

For examples, the Chest provides funds to Hong Kong Neuro-Muscular Disease Association for their cure of patients, the Chest would avoid a direct competition with HKNMDA. “We only compete with services that are not funded,” she explained.

“Help is always received from competition because more donations are raised in competing better charity events. We do not let competitors’ fund raising events to affect ours,” Tong concluded. “We see opportunities in dangers.”
