HONG KONG| TUE APR 9,2013 20:55 (UTC) Hong Kong is a paradise for journalists, providing freedom of speech and plenty of room to report, said Jane Chen, the channel director and news director of One TV.

One TV is a new satellite broadcaster in Hong Kong, and is ready to broadcast in the coming May.

Chen, who has worked for China media before, had found that Hong Kong is known for freedom of speech, allowing journalists report truly and thoroughly.

" Hong Kong can adopt different kind of voices, letting journalists have plenty of room to their practice their ideas and fulfill their dreams,"said Chen.

Chen noted that, restrained by the political system of China, journalists in China could hardly tell the truth, while they may only report part of the truth.

However, Chen also mentioned that the salary level of Hong Kong journalists is far lower than China journalists'.

Chen took CCTV as an example, journalists of CCTV are gaining the double salary comparing with the Hong Kong journalists with same status in CCTV, while many China journalists are allowed to ask for compensation from the interviewee, which Chen called that "Income in grey area".

Chen revealed that she invited a famous China journalist to work in Hong Kong before, but the journalist turned down the offer instantly after knowing the payment of Hong Kong media.

Chen thought that low payment for Hong Kong journalists is a unchangeable fact. She suggested people who expect to get wealthy living condition through being a journalists should not get in the industry.

" I do think journalists need enough courage to stay in the industry. May be journalists in Hong Kong should learn how to invest in financial items to make their lives getting better," said Chen.
