Hong Kong film producer is afraid of censorship in China


Hong Kong film producer still concern China censorship after Hong Kong government announce that Beijing would lift five requirements for co-production of cross-border movies, a Hong Kong film producer says.


“Hong Kong filmmakers are concerning the censorship from Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China rather than the five requirements,” Au Man-Kit Jevons, Hong Kong filmmaker, said at Hong Kong Shue Yan University.


Au said all script of co-production were required to be scanned by Publicity Department for avoiding any sensitive theme of movie.


Au said if Hong Kong filmmaker want to participate co-production, they need to adapt the censorship.


Au also sad if Hong Kong filmmaker can adapt the censorship, they will get mote investment from China big company, because the film will in China market.


Au was asked whether he would participate co-production.


Au said he rejected project from mainland, which was with good pay and the story was happened in Marcus, because the story was attractive for him.


“After I rejected the project, I would more understand what I want to do,” Au said.


“I will not give up my project or job in Hong Kong, because of the five requirements,” Au said.


Au reflected study life of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and said that classmates and teachers help him to cultivate film interests.


Au also said that we should treasure our classmates and friends as they will be your partner in the future.


“There are two producers in Ten Years who are my classmate and junior alumnus,” Au said.


Long time ago, Au was script supervisor and worked with Johnnie To, a famous Hong Kong director.


Au said as a script supervisor, he was very close to To in workplace, and he learned filming skills and problem-solving skills from To.
