A few of Hong Kong films rejuvenate the Hong Kong movie industry, but its overall direction of development remains undecided, said a director.

It is happy to see that among the nomination list of this year's Hong Kong Film Awards, the proportion of nominated Hong Kong films has risen a lot, said Albert Lai, a director of Many Vision Ltd at Shue Yan University weekly forum.

“Hong Kong films should look for new directions rather than stagnation,” Lai said. He took Hong Kong's recent Lunar New Year film as an example to point out that the theme of the New Year's film was copy from the previous Lunar New Year films. There was no new breakthrough. He does not think that this is the direction that Hong Kong films should have.

Lai said, “the development of Hong Kong films should not be developed based on old or vulgar themes.” As those are “just for the local people”, so it would be difficult for Hong Kong's movie industry to develop outward.

On the contrary, he thinks that “Tracey”, " Distinction" and other films with unique themes should be encouraged. Not only because of the topicality of such films, but because the film reflects the culture of a place.

Lai also reminded the new directors and young people who engaged in the film industry should not be too fanciful. It is necessary for them to collect more information so as to film a high-quality movie.--165009 2019年3月5日 (三) 17:54 (CST)
