By Hester Wong, 12th March 2019 A town planner said the development of smart cities in Hong Kong is increasing slowly. The reason is that the government's accountability and its enforcement is not great.

Local government is striving to build Hong Kong into a world-class smart city, through adopting the measures set out in this Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong.

“I am also difficult to communicate with the government to develop smart cities and he will make the development of smart cities encounter more obstacles” Stanley Ng, CEO of MapKing said in the talk held at Shue Yan University. Hong Kong officials are not easy to communicate. He takes Singapore officials as an example. People in Singapore are more willing to meet people from different sectors to promote the development of smart cities. It’s because they need to explain to their senior officials the process of doing their own business.

Ng pointed out, “the government has plans to develop towards smart cities, and then it has also promoted some smart city plans, such as planning a streetlight system for smart travel, but Hong Kong is still lagging behind other countries like Singapore.” The Government has a blueprint for smart cities in fact. The six key elements of the development are "Smart Travel", "Smart Life", "Smart Government", "Smart Community" and "Smart Environment". And "Smart Economy".
