Saudi Arabia gave a citizenship to the humanoid robot Sophia in last month, Nisa Leung said Hong Kong should consider to granting a citizenship to Sophia also.

Nisa Leung, Managing Partner of Qiming Venture Partner (QVP). “Sophia same as a normal person,” said by Leung. Sophia is a humanoid robot which created by Hong Kong’s Hanson Robotics. During Future Investment Initiative hold in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia in last month, their government was granted Sophia a citizenship.

QVP is an investment company, they invested over 220 innovative companies and the total fund has more than 2.7 billion U.S. dollars, those companies are focused on medical industry and information technology. Leung as the Managing Partner, she said Hong Kong people should change their thought on innovation and technology in order to overtake another innovation hub such as Singapore and Guangzhou.

“The people in China will purse and search for the innovation technology on their own initiative while we need to push the students in Hong Kong to access STEM (science, technology, engineering and math),” said Leung. According to the Global Innovation Index rankings by IMD Business School in Switzerland, Hong Kong ranked No.7 which under Singapore (No.1).

Although Hong Kong has been won the second straight year of the world’s most competitive economy, our innovation and technology beyond many cities obviously. Leung said our atmosphere of the community is the reason of this situation. In Silicon Valley, those people are checking out what’s news and have a discussion about another company’s idea. In Hong Kong, those people are busy on gossips and focus on business and stock market only. Leung also said that Hong Kong company did not lack of money but need to “think big” to explore a worldwide market instead of local only.
