Tik Tok leads a new short-form videos generation which benefits audience shortening their viewing time along with their attention in the future.

Patton Chen, planning director towards South China of Tik Tok, ByteDance Ltd, attended the Shue Yan University assembly this afternoon and shared the trend of emerging media Tik Tok.

“Tik Tok is a short-form video platform for people joining different social interactions through videos. Our purpose is to provide a platform for users creating something new and increase the difficulty based on those video models,” said Patton.

The system of Tik Tok includes 3 aspects, which are creator, platform and fans. These elements are constructed to be a good content ecology.

“Vertical screening, speedy and massive are attractiveness to Tik Tok users. Tik Tok can also be an app for behaviour driven platform,” said Patton.

Patton said it is unusual for Tik Tok operating more successfully in overseas than that in Hong Kong.

“There are about 600 million Tik Tok users over the world. And now, there are more foreign users starting to use Tik Tok just to follow the trend,” said Patton.

Tik Tok has bigger markets in America and Southeast Asia than that in Hong Kong, but Patton said Tik Tok can contain multiple contents since each place owns their unique characteristic.

“Tik Tok needs more unique contents from Hong Kong and Hong Kong also needs this platform to communicate with the world more,” Patton added. Patton also mentioned that Tik Tok can be done such successfully is based on its sound effects, colours and audio of those short-form videos.

Based on some statistics, 90% Tik Tok users tend to ‘like’ someone’s videos, 83% users tend to upload their own videos onto Tik Tok.

In Hong Kong, Patton said 62% Tik Tok users are 25 years old above as 38% between 16-24 years old users.

The ratio between men and women is 38 to 62,. Patton said tthat is because women tend to use videos’ filters when they are shooting a short video.

Tik Tok is an app which covers 150 countries and districts over the world with supporting 75 types of languages.
