Jetstar Hong Kong is still waiting for approval for the application for a operation license issued by Hong Kong authorities. Edward Lau, the Chief Executive Officer of Jetstar Hong Kong said they believed that they will be granted the operating licence eventually.

Jetstar Hong Kong is a joint venture of Australia’s Qantas Airways, Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines and transport and property firm Shun Tak. The company had planned to begin operating by the middle of last year and to be the first Hong Kong based low-cost carrier. However, the application of the operating licence is still waiting for approval. Jetstar Hong Kong has sold six of its nine new Airbus A320s to cut the costs.

Edward Lau said that the government had announced the requirement for granting the operating licence, Jetstar Hong Kong is adequate to fulfil the requirement. He have faith in getting the licence.

When asked if Jetstar Hong Kong will have a competition with Cathay Pacific, Lau pointed that the low-cost carrier is different to Cathy Pacific in its business nature. He explained that the low-cost carrier is more focus on short flight and point to point transportation.
