“There are total 1,800 staffs in the production team of TVB. The human resources lured away counts less than 5% of them, which is a normal outflow of employees in a big company like TVB,” Lai said, “the brain-drain will not seriously affect the development of TVB.”

However, Lai pointed out that there is a lack of scriptwriters in Mainland and because of that, he highly recommends those who are interested in scriptwriting work at Mainland TV stations.

“In Hong Kong, a television drama scriptwriter can usually get HK$12,000 for one episode, but in Mainland, scriptwriters can have a startup salary 2.5 times higher than those in Hong Kong. It is a good choice for you [those who are interested in scriptwriting] to try the Mainland market,” Lai concluded.

He stressed that there are still enough scriptwriters in Hong Kong since (the-erase, no need for it) TVB, which is the only station to produce local drama, has dominated the local TV industry in Hong Kong.

However, Lai pointed out that there is a lack of scriptwriters in Mainland and because of that, he highly recommends those who are interested in scriptwriting (working-change to infinitive form) at Mainland TV stations.
