Lau Ming-wai “We should make good use of the non-resident parents” reported by WONG Chun-ki

Bauhinia Foundation Research Center (BFRC) released a study on population policy, mentioned that since the low birth rate and the aging population became serious in Hong Kong, the labor force would be decrease. Lau Ming-wai, Vice Chairman of BFRC said in a university today, the government should encourage those children who born in Hong Kong to non-HK-resident parents and their parents come to Hong Kong orderly.

Hong Kong people has been rejecting those children who born in Hong Kong to non-HK-resident parents because of misunderstanding them to seize Hong Kong’s public resources. Lau explained, 60% of the parents of those children are normally well educated and have stable income. Hong Kong people should accept them under feasible situation and this would bring long-term economic benefit to Hong Kong.

Lau also suggested importing foreign labor to solve the structural labor shortage problem, but not the short-term labor shortage. He added that some middle east countries, for instance, Du Bai, they not only importing foreign labor for domestic helpers, but also different occupations, like nurse and bell boys. He thought that the Hong Kong government should make good use of these people. Otherwise, local employers would increase the salary to attract labors and the increases will be passed to the people.--115058 2014年3月18日 (二) 22:11 (UTC)
