HKSYU, 18 Dec - Mable Leung, the managing director of MRRM Publishing LTD, gave a talk at Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday. She indicated that monthly magazines focus on quality rather than quantity.


“Monthly magazine runner and weekly magazine runner are different kinds of animal,” said Mable. As a monthly magazine, MRRM’s major source of income is advertising. However, they hardly make profit because of the high fabricating cost. Mable pointed out that monthly magazines attach importance to quality of printing, text, content and design. She believed monthly magazine have its living space, “it provide readers with something weekly magazine can’t offer”.


Things have changed, mainland China has catch up with Hong Kong in magazine word. Many Hong Kong magazines used to release their mainland version in mainland China. Nowadays, the famous international fashion magazine Vogue sells its mainland version in Hong Kong. Because publishers could not afford the cost in Hong Kong.


In order to adapt to the trend of development, many monthly magazines start to propagandize themselves using social media like Facebook. MRRM even employ a group of people to deal with it exclusively. Besides, there are daily news in MRRM’s website to attract readers to stay.
