Reporter / April Ng Mainland travelers gave support to the media industry in Hong Kong, said Ngai Kai Kwong,

the chief editor of Sing Pao Daily News.

“Lots of mainland travelers buy Hong Kong newspapers to get to know what is happening in Hong

Kong,” Ngai said. “The circumstances of mainland and Hong Kong are totally different. Mainland

travelers are curious about Hong Kong and would buy a newspaper to understand it.”

He added that mainland travelers would bring the newspapers back to mainland as souvenirs and share

them with the others.

Ngai said that there were not many political magazines in mainland, so such magazines in Hong Kong

were attractive to the mainland travelers too.

Sing Pao is a Hong Kong newspaper; however, it only had about 200 staffs in Hong Kong while the

content usually included more China news than Hong Kong affairs.

On the contrary, “we believe Hong Kong people pay close attention to China news,” Ngai said.

“Also, we have strength of developing China news as we have a head quarter, offices and dormitories

in Guangzhou. We employed many staff to provide news in China immediately.”
