HKSYU, 11 Dec - Raymond. R. Wong, the chairperson of Communications Authority Broadcast Codes of Practice Committee, gave a talk at Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday. He emphasized that journalist should report news rather than make it.

People can have all kinds of opinions, but opinion should be supported by fact. Unfortunately, some of newspapers in Hong Kong just create the news. Raymond can not help saying that, ”our job is not to make news, but to report it.” He questioned that if newspaper can not inform us on the fair and balance bases, then who would provide the information.

Speak of internet, Raymond pointed out that it was the best of time and worst of time in Hong Kong media stage. “ I always thought, as a journalist, I must be neutral. But how you can be neutral in internet” said Raymond. He found that many people in Hong Kong use Facebook to take a political stand. And he doesn’t think it’s professional and fair for a wellknown reporter from TV station package the story in internet.

Since City Telecom had some trouble in getting the TV licence, some people think it is a cutthroat competition among the TV station. However, Raymond indicated that it’s quite reasonable in capitalist society like Hong Kong. “There’s nothing wrong with people to make money. Just don’t be so naive” said him.
