Chiu Sin-chun, NOW Business program co-host, criticized the budget that was proposed by Financial Secretary John C Tsang last Wednesday, saying that there was no foresight and development.


Tsang mentioned that Hong Kong will have a severe fiscal deficit after seven years. Chiu said that the Budget should mention more about the ways of the government income apart from using reserve and the "Future Fund" which comprised the Land Fund and a portion of future surpluses. Chiu added for example, the government could focus in enlarging the tax base system which was in large proportion to the government income.


Yet, to expend the government revenue by increasing taxes, Chiu thought that it's difficult to collect consumption tax. He thought that Hong Kong was characteristic of its simple and low tax rate system.
