Tradition way of learning is no longer enough to match with the development of the society. As to caught up with the changes, many countries has chosen to use STEM education method to teach students in the lessons.

“The world is changing every minute and you have to keep learning new things,” Moni Law, the founder & CEO of ICanCode said at a Hong Kong Shue Yan University forum yesterday. The concept of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education was raising in Hong Kong. “STEM is an activity approach, it is way different from the traditional way of teaching,” she said.

The tradition way of teaching was a unidirectional form of learning, students’ knowledge was mainly come directly from what the teacher taught them, students usually revise and do practice given by the teacher. This way of learning mainly focuses on teacher. But STEM was the way of learning that mainly focus on students, it has given more opportunities for students to learn by interaction. “The successful of STEM needs the co-ordination between teachers, resources and environment,” she said.

Law said that adding coding inside Hong Kong education syllabus would be a wise decision, many countries has aware the importance of coding in the future, and has already added coding in the lessons, such as America, Japan and Taiwan.

“The education system in South Korea has huge support from the government, “she said. In South Korea, government has provided a lot of supports to the education system, such as in the public exam period, government would close the road for the students to make sure that there would not have any traffic jam, also students who felt unwell may ask the police to drive them to the exam center. “Hong Kong government can take it for reference for improving the education system,” she said.

Moni Law has founded ICanCode in 2016 which dedicated to develop STEM education. Through the innovative concept, products and service, including coding, AI and creative STEM courses, provide new learning experience to the students, to ensure students have a better overall development.--165054 2019年2月12日 (二) 20:08 (CST)
