I believe the country’s media environment will keep improving.” said David Schlesinger, Chairman of Thomson Reuters China. Schlesinger is a senior journalist who works in this field for 25 years, presented in Shue Yan University this afternoon. During 1991 to 1994 he was the chief of Reuter’s Beijing Bureau. “At that time, just two years after the June 4th incident, media are subject to a large degree of control, what Xinhua said, everyone else followed.” Until today there are still severe restrictions but the press freedom is already improved. “There are so many local newspapers which are doing daring stories.” He thinks the changing process will not stop, because there are many good reporters from China go overseas to study and work, after returning with new sight they change the media ecology in the country.
