Step to front line

Walking along the corridor, searching for the right ward, thinking of the first question, a reporter from Hong Kong was asked to cover an investigative story in a hospital in China.

                                                Rico Yeung

James Pomfret , the South China Correspondent of the Reuters, went to China to cover the forced abortions in a village.

“Investigative stories are emotional,” James said.

In the ward, James saw three pregnant women waiting for forced abortions by the “one child policy” set by the Chinese government. Poison injections will be adopted as to kill the embryos. James had to interview the three “mothers” as to report this phenomenon to the public.

“I was a bit sad at that time watching the women, “James said.

In investigative reporting, interviewee’s feelings and gestures also showed their emotions and were more sensational to their words.

“Investigative reporting is heartbreaking, therefore, I love it, particularly working in China,” James said.

James steeped on the ground where the incidents happened and be one of the witnesses of the event.

“Being a participant in a major event to feel that atmosphere is also an unusual experience,” James said.
