Hong Kong government has input a lot of resources to develop innovation and technology, but the biggest barrier of the development is do not have many talented person and the market is too small, says entrepreneur.

“We should turn fear into opportunities,” Kenneth Chau, the president of Technology Incubation Network and the owner of iMusicTech Limited said at a Hong Kong Shue Yan University forum yesterday. The New York Times has revealed that in the future, more than 50% jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence, but Chau believe this is not true, it just create the fear of the public. It was exaggerated, he added.

“The biggest challenge is lack of talented people” he said. In the past, not many people were willing to take part in technology research, because they can see future in this career. But in recent years, the situation is changing, many young people are very active in technology research. “ the second challenge is the market is too small” he added. Comparing to China or Japan, Hong Kong only has 7 million people, the market size is very small. But he believes that Hong Kong is very suitable to be a test base, developer could try out the new technology in a small market, if the public reaction is good, then they can develop in other countries, he added.

“The application process of government funding is very weird” Jackson Tang, the starter of Petostar Technology Limited said at a Hong Kong Shue Yan University forum yesterday. Even though government has provided tons of resources for innovation and technology development, the application process require applicators to develop the product first, then they can ask the government to claim the funding. “There is no way for beginners to have that much money to develop at the first place” he said. He believes that if there is a organisation which can provide cash flow loan, it could solve the difficulties of development.

Kenneth Chau started iMusicTech Limited in 2008, he is the fifth software developer of Apple Inc.in Hong Kong. iMusicTech is the only company that has won NBIA world champion in Hong Kong. It is one of the world class creative technology companies of Hong Kong either.

Jackson Tang is the starter of Petostar Technology Limited, he also is Kenneth’s mentee. They both participated in the HKSTP Incubation Programme.--165054 2018年11月13日 (二) 17:07 (CST)
