Nowadays Hong Kong movie industry lack of market, it should collaborate with China and the government should provide resources, said a former director.

The current local movie industry is facing the worst situation, said Cheuk Pak Tong, a Professor Emeritus of Hong Kong Baptist University at Shue Yan University weekly forum. He is an experienced director and the committee of Hong Kong Film Development Council as well.

Cheuk said, “the most splendid decade of Hong Kong movie industry is 1980's.” Hong Kong movie promote China cultural values and so as to upgrade the Hong Kong status. Many talented people in filming were discovered and even had the chance to develop in Hollywood at that time.

Hong Kong local movie market is so small that it is not easy to reach the foreign market. Cheuk said, many movies didn’t do well at the box office. Thus it is important to cooperate with the Greater Bay Area to broaden the Hong Kong movie market .

As many Hong Kong directors tend to work in the mainland, Cheuk believes it is not a bad situation if they are mature enough. Since the China movie industry is not standardised, Hong Kong directors may not easy to follow. “One of the advantages of Hong Kong movie industry is that it is systematic,” he said. Therefore, Hong Kong and the mainland can complement each other. --165009 2019年2月19日 (二) 17:43 (CST)
