Wong Chau-sang “Drama makes us live easlier.” Reported by WONG Chun-ki

Anthony Wong Chau-sang, an actor and representative-elect of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (Drama), gave a talk at Shue Yan University today, saying that Hong Kong need to be educated with drama.

Hong Kong Ballet’s alleged self-censorship in cutting 12-minute material of Cultural Revolution has raised controversy lately. Wong said that he did not understand why self-censorship happened in the field of art, “It was such a wishful thinking that people wanted to be political persecuted.”

Wong recommended students to live in China for a while and watch the local TV program, they will realize there would be a program which denied Cultural Revolution produced by CCTV. He doubted that why Hong Kong people degenerated on the contrary.

Wong emphasized that Hong Kong people need to be educated, especially with drama. “Hong Kong people lack a sense of humor, drama learning not only provides better oral skills, but also teaches people how to live with flexibility and humor. Moreover, it is all about words which represent one’s mind,” he said.
